well the timing belt tensioner came loose and jumped timing...so im looking for a new engine. Its at the shop right now and they estimated $2600 to put another engine in with 58k...$2600 seems kinda steep and im trying to find other shops in MD to install a new motor in my car

:agreed: When i needed to replace an engine I got one from a salvage car w. 35k for $600 w. everything except the uper intake manifold. Went to the auto parts store and baught a lift. $100 on sale :woot: and downloaded the service manual. Whole swap cost me around $800 including the little stuff i changed while i was under there, belts, plugs, bosch water pump and fluids. If your mechanically inclined its a great learning experience and you can definitly cut those costs by more than half. Most of what they are charging will be labor.

I had to do a new engine in my supra and labor was around 3k for me plus 1200 for the engine (and shipping). I also had to do a clutch on it so that just added on to the bill. From my experience (which isn't really that much) I would said that's a pretty decent price but obviously you'll save (and learn) a lot if you do it yourself.

edit: Since you're looking at getting a new engine anyways, maybe now is the time for the 6G74 upgrade. Lemons to lemonade my friend...

$2600 is a little high for a USED engine, for a few hundred more a good shop should be able to do a rebuilt engine from someplace like jasper. most shops wont get into or warranty any engine other than the one that came out of the car, such as swapping to a 6G74.
