Ok guys, I'm sure you saw my other thread about my issue with the Clutchmasters Flywheel not being able to fit. From what I was reading it seemed like some people were thinking that you had to change the starter to the 2g starter to make the flywheel work... First of all I don't see that as exactly correct, the openning that fits over the crank is about an 1 1/2 inches too small. Secondly, I think that is bullshit that we have to go through that trouble, The flywheel should fit if it was made for our car.

Sooo, anyway, I got in touch with Clutchmasters and found out some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that they have a flywheel that will be available by late next week for distribution that is actually designed for the 2000+ 4g64 engine!!!

The bad news is that I have to wait ANOTHER WEEK, while my car is just steps away from being finished. Kinda gaym, but what ever..

I would assume that the flywheel will be the same price as the old one, but for all you guys that have been sooo anxious to actually get one on your car.... HERE IT IS!!!

FYI, for those that don't know, the stock flywheel weighs about 30lbs, the new one only weighs about 9.78lbs. This will make a huge difference in accelleration by giving you a much quicker throttle rev.

Has anyone heard anything about the RPW flywheel it seems pretty good but based on what they say a new flywheel wont help you but I was thinking of getting this because I just got a spec stage 3 clutch and with rpw flywheel and new lsd I wont have to worry about killing my drivetrain. Vision Import gave me a price of around $400, but this is what they said on the website.

"RPW manufactures a range of upgraded flywheels for the 2.4 litre model vehicles. Contrary to popular opinion there is only marginal benefits to replacing the stock 2.4 flywheel with a lighter unit. This will only lose torque and the result being loss of power. The reason for this is that the standard flywheel is already a factory super light unit. Rather than the old days of being one large mass of cast metal, the flywheels are now a centre light weight steel thin plate bolted on with four bolts to an outer cast metal mass of flywheel. Essentially almost a flex plate onto an outer flywheel. Because of this design there is little chance of making a unit any lighter, and for no gain to boot."

ive handled an auto's tq converter/flywheel. the flywheel is very thin steel.

is your mechanic that said its heavey the same one who will install the new lighter one? doesnt that give him motovation to encourage you to get a lighter flywheel?

it is thin and light. the tq converter weighs the most. with out that hunk on it, id guess it weighs ~18lbs give or take a few lbs. no way in hell is it more than 22lbs tho. even that sounds a lil piggish.

the engine and tranny was already out of the car. He is not charging me anything extra to install a new flywheel or clutch. I trust the guy and there is absolutely no reason for him to lie to me and tell me that it weighs more than it really does. Believe me, he wants my car out of his shop, its been there for over 7 months now. If he didn't see a reason in replacing it he would tell me. I could pay 35 bucks to a machine shop and resurface the stock flywheel and I would have gotten the car back a week ago. He gave me that option, and I told him lets do it.

You guys can make your own decisions on whether to replace it or not. As well as believing how much it weighs. I do not represent anyone, nor am I promoting this flywheel. Makes not a bit if difference if anyone buys it. I am just looking out for everyone here that wants better performance.

So :p
