Hey all,

So I just got a 2000 Eclipse GS (5speed). I don't really know anything about Mitsubishis, I'm more of a motorcycle guy, but there is a light on the dash that just flashes all the time!

Green light shaped like a car, with a key inside.

I have found some people say its the immo, and other the alarm. All I know is unlike everyone else with problems related to the light, my car will start, and runs just fine. The light will blink all the time, no matter what. When I arm the car, it stays solid for the 20 sum seconds, then starts flashing again. The light flashes whether I have the car parked, started, rolling 80 down the highway, no matter what, really bugs the shiz out of me. Check all fuses twice over, and I cant see anything out of place.

The owner before me did a really hack job of installing a head unit in the car, and I have had to rewire all the audio in the car. Who knows what else they did in there...

Any help, please. Like I said, I have been unable to find anyone who's car still runs with the light on, hope you all can tell me what I need to know.

PS. The dealer looked inside the car, and had no idea what it was.

Thanks,
Steel

Car shape with key symbol inside it. It is part of the anti-theft/immobilizer system that all eclipse have. For car's with alarm, it serves as an indicator that the car alarm has been armed. If it blinks, it usually mean that there is a problem with the key

I just got the car, and they did a hack job installing an after market radio so who knows what the did under there. I fixed everything with the radio, but have no idea about the rest in the center dash.

If I pull the "Dome Light" fuse from under the hood, then the light stops, but it also drops the sun roof, wireless remote, and doer locks inside the car (really, wtf?).

I have come to the conclusion that Mitsubishis have screwy wiring, and I just locked my keys in the car.... DAMN!!!!

Ill be installing a subwoofer in the car this weekend, Ill take a pic of the damage they have created at that time, let yall see what I'm working with.

Pulled the "Dome Light" fuse for now, so the alarm wont sound and the green light won't blink. How the immobilizer is connected to the dome lights I feel Ill never know... lol

Does the alarm still function? Put your fuse back in, roll your window down and lock your car with your remote. Then reach in and open the door. Does the alarm still go off? Also is the alarm factory? Does your remote have a Mitsubishi logo on the back?
You really can remove the bulb in about 5 mins. It's super easy. I do agree with GMCometh but still its better than taking out the fuse. You can also try unplugging the battery for a little while and let everything reset.
If I had to guess I would say this hack job installing the radio you speak of is the problem. Especially if the alarm and everything else works fine.

Its not just the light though, the alarm will sound off randomly. The alarm does work, I have tested that. I don't wana just remove the light, I wana fix it.

I'm going to really get into the dash fry, unplug that harness, see if its a short tripping it out, or if the alarm/immo is just screwed.

I didn't read after the first post, but my guess is that someone bypassed the factory theft system and installed an aftermarket alarm. who knows how screwed up things are now...

Factory alarm, aftermarket radio. I fixed the wiring for the radio, but I think they shorted something out in the system.

I'm in central Ga, don't know if a 3g member would be willing to check it out, see what we could do. I don't mind dropping the alarm and the immo if I have to.

Removed the green light, it was easy (3 min) lol, but now I won't know if I fixed anything when I get into it tomorrow. Hope the alarm don't go off in the middle of the night as it randomly has been.

I know I'm late to the party but based on what you're saying it's completely possible that someone used an immobilizer bypass the fact that it starts and the green key light is flashing that's the immobilizer saying the key isn't recognized so it's trying to kill the engine I'm guessing someone bypassed the thing. If it will start and run with no problem I wouldn't worry about it unless you want that light to go away.
