There is a Lotus Elise in Orlando with twin chargers. Last I heard, it was walking over Ferrari's and such left and right. I believe that he said that the HP was 700+. I can't imagine that the torque was quite at that level, but then again, those cars don't weight anything.

BTW, 75% of the body (inside and out) has been replaced with CF composite. I think that he said in total, he lost about 250 pounds of excess body fat. That thing is a MONSTER! (It doesn't look too bad either.)

I don't mean to be a dick or anything, but I can't stand the Lotus Elise. The Exige isn't a whole lot better. NEITHER ONE comes close to comparing to the Espirit V8, which is by far and above the best handling/performing car I have ever driven, bar none. If you want a car that drives like a racecar, the Espirit is the car for you. The Elise was built with cost in mind, which I feel left something to be desired.

No offense intended to those who own the Elise. Comparatively, it is a great car. Hell, for less than $50,000, you get one hell of a car. That being said, I have driven an EVO VIII with SS-P coil overs and an EDFC that could give the Elise one hell of a run for it's money.

Opinions are like assholes...everyone's got one...or is that excuses?

Either way, I have had the privilege of driving a boosted Elise with I believe upgraded suspension and a 1997 Espirit V8. (Both were yellow, strangely enough.) I can honestly say that I preferred the Espirit, without any shadow of a doubt. It felt more...natural? It really is difficult to explain.

I do, however, know several people who feel the same way. One of them used to own an Elise and traded it for an OLD Espirit. I remember praying that the damn thing would start half of the time. The gears were by far and above the most unforgiving of any car I have EVER driven. Still, I preferred it to the Elise. There was something about that car that just drove me nuts. I can't put my finger on it.

pretty sure the C60 in the exige is about one of the most unforgiving gearboxes  its the engine blower. oops, i was 1/8th of an inch off and that was 2nd not 4th, there goes the engine!

That can't be the same transmission in the Elise, because I can't remember it being that bad.

However, go out and take an 80's Esprit (looks like I have been spelling the name wrong for a good, eh, half thread) for a quick drive around the block. It will redefine your definition of "unforgiving".

I like the Elise.

that being said, I highly doubt that one above is putting down 700+ hp unless it's no longer got the toyota 4cyl in it.

The Esprit in no way can compare to the handling or straight line performance of the elise/exige. The car is just simply not in the same class. The 1000 lbs of fat on the Esprit will make sure of that.

I'm also not sure why anyone would have to pray that the elise/exige will start. I've never heard of anyone praying that their toyota corrola will start.

I was talking about the OLD Esprit. I agree with you, the Elise should start up every time, lol.

It is kind of like trying to fit a wooden light pole into Taylor Shift's asshole.

Now, here is the real question: What is the Evora going to be like?

I will have an answer to that question as soon as Lotus sends them out. (Same friend who traded the Elise sold his M5 V10 to put a down payment on the Evora. I have no clue when its supposed to get here. I called first dibs on a test drive. I will post LOTS of pictures. I don't anticipate that happening before...December...at the earliest. I don't go home until then for Winter Break.)

Man, you're out of your mind. The Esprit with its old-tech turbo V8 is outclassed in every way by the Elise and Exige, especially the supercharged models. The Esprit is the car that was built on a shoestring budget since that car remained relatively unchanged except for an engine upgrade from a turbo 4-banger to a turbo V8 in over 20+ years. The Elise/Exige with its aluminum tub, fiberglass body, remote oil coolers, forged wheels... all of the pieces that go in one is pretty out there. The Esprit is a nice car, don't get me wrong, but it's a wallowing pig in comparison to the Elise and Exige.

And yes, I'm a fanboy homer so take my word with a grain of salt.

As for the Evora, I got a chance to check it out last month when Lotus was doing a tour with preproduction models to all the Lotus dealerships around the country. It's a bit more roomy than the Elise and the power and torque are better, the interior is loads superior, and it's much more civilized as a daily driver. But the Evora is just as much of a bitch to get in and out of, the back seats are completely useless (I actually hit them with my seat back when I scoot back enough to be comfortable) and it's not what I'd call affordable. I guess it's for the Corvette crowd that want to drive something a bit more unique than a Corvette.

Man, you're out of your mind.

My mind is a twisted and evil place. I have found that long periods of exposure tend to have negative consequences.

Now if only somebody would invent a fix for the soft top so that it stops leaking every time I get caught in the rain or hose off my car  The hardtop's so frickin' expensive :noway:

a 200whp difference on a 1.8 liter engine is huge man, even with the 2.0L stroker setup 700 sounds high. 500 is known to me.

Well I am about to graduate college with $70000 of student loans, so even though I will be making more if I get a good job, I kinda have to try and pay these loans off first. Then I will get myself hopelessly in debt with something else, say a nice car:eek3:.

 i'd hardly call it over worked. he's got an E153 gearbox which is about as stout as stout gets and a fully built 2ZZ. he could push much much higher numbers on a big turbo.

#33 ·
Exactly. By overworked, I mean too many mods to make it a reasonable prospect for most buyers with that kind of coin. Do you honestly see some lawyer or doctor type buying that?

#38 ·
honestly, i bet that lotus would blow the doors off a GTR from anything but a warranty voiding, transmission destroying launch.

#39 ·
I would second that notion... the fatass GTR would require some extra power to hand with that very light and powerful lotus.

Side note: Did anyone actually ever check how expensive GTR parts are... 6-8k for a exhaust 1-2k for downpipes... :eek2: It would cost you about twice as much to catch that 80k... Lotus.
