Hey everyone! New here and need some advice. I used to own a 01 Eclipse RS that I loved but sold a few years ago. I'm in the market for another 2 door coupe of some sort and saw this ad on craigslist for an 03 Eclipse GTS.

2003 Eclipse GTS - $3750

She LOOKS great and in the details it looks like a lot of work has been done however the biggest red flag for me is the rebuilt title.

I did some research on the site here and I think these quotes may apply.

Avoid salvage titles at all costs unless you plan to do all the work yourself. And don't be disappointed when you discover it pulls a little to the left or right after all is said and done.
Just go out and buy a clean car with some miles on it. I would rather have a high mileage car thats never been hit over a low mileage salvage/rebuilt car anyday.
That last quote is great especially since this car is rebuilt AND high mileage. Also the ad is over a month old and he hasn't sold it yet.

Soooooo, sounds like I've already talked myself out of it. Damn but it looks so good!

I'd buy it if you can talk them down since they did say it runs fine. But take note of all the things they've replaces, sensors and whatnot. It's obvious they've been trying to track down a certain problem by replacing o2 and maf sensor. Maybe there's an issue with the CAI itself.

So yeah, they're asking $3800, I'd offer $3000, if they take it then great, if not, it was meant to be.

All I can add, is if you buy it, you are stuck with the salvage title. Regardless of the documentation stating it was "repaired correctly", a salvage title is a salvage title. Good luck every selling it. Personally, In dont buy anything "salvage". To me it is a key word for SUCKER.

My car has a salvage title and I've had it for 5 years with no problems. However, I had all documentation of where it was hit and what they needed to do to repair it. I don't have a huge problem buying salvage stuff if the seller is willing to disclose everything to me. In this situation I would pass because it's too high of a price for a salvage title. I got a good deal on mine.

Decided to pass. Actually what really did it for me was when I did some more research and discovered the GTS has 10:1 compression ratio engine meaning premium gas is recommended. I've had a car like that before, a 96 Ford Probe GT, and I just don't feel like paying premium fuel prices just to squeeze out 10 more HP over the Eclipse GT's engine. Thanks for the advice though guys I'll be patient and just keep an eye out for something better.

All these 6g7x engines like premium gas. If you don't have enough money to fill a car up with good gas then you don't have enough money to own a car.

If the car got more than 10hp (I got that info from wikipedia so if that's not accurate let me know) over the GT I would do it. . My Probe GT got significantly more HP than my old base model 4 cylinder did so it wasn't an issue to me.

I'm not hunting specifically for an Eclipse. I have several coupes in mind. I'm also considering LS1 powered Camaro's and Trans-Am's and even though they burn regular gas, I'd be spending more than driving an Eclipse GTS on premium. Again, though, a significant jump in HP here.

That's my line of thinking anyway. YMMV.
