I saw the first picture and the idea of the 2nd one came to mind but then I though "No one is stupid/retarded enough to do that."

But alas, I saw the 2nd one

I looked at a lot of TVs and in terms of picture quality it came down to the Sony Bravia series and the dynamic backlit Samsung ones. I ended up deciding on the Samsung LN40A550. For the price, the picture quality is absolutely amazing and has a lot of features that other TVs, even those with worse picture quality, do not.

Yea, I am waiting for my TV to do the same thing. The only problem is that I have a big and thick entertainment center which I will probably have to get rid of at the same time.

eh, dunno if this deal will work. return policy states anything above $250 a check will be issued and sent to my home within 10days. I dont want to put anything on my credit cards, so i would have to wait to get these funds, before i could make the purchase.

i know it sounds silly....but i made a commitment not to put "crap" on my credit cards....i can delay gratification for a little bit & get a better tv in a few weeks.

Who pays with cash anymore  You didn't pay with a debit card or something?

They should be able to give you store credit if you are just turning around and buying something else. Explain that to them Phil. It's worked for me in the past :)

I saw a lot of nice slim DLP 1080p tv's at BestBuy. Priced very nicely.

My bf and I just ordered a 50" Insignia Plasma from Best Buy for $997. We got a 37" Insignia LCD a few months ago and really like it. We weren't looking to spend a fortune and didn't really care about name brand so much since we're moving in to a new place and will have to buy a lot of stuff, and when we went and looked at the tv's in the store we really liked the picture on the Insignia's. I think they only have a so many left in their warehouses and in most cases they have to order them and you'd have it within a week...I think the price in store says $1299 but they told us they would price match it for the $997 price so I'm sure if you told them they would do the same.

its done...plus i got some goodies.

42" panasonic + wall mount + 4 year in home warranty + geek squad install+ calibration+ 60gb xbox360 = 1500 - 300 for the 20gb xbox i returned : grand total of about 1200

he gave me the wall mount and discounted the calibration in return i did 2 years no interest & set up a best buy account.

but remember i said "my conscience was bugging me" it took 2 hours to do the whole deal. the associate who helped me, screwed up te deal several times and a manager finally had to do the whole thing. then the credit card associate, put my ss# wrong in the sytem and it took another 30min talking to "the bank" to get it fixed.....needless to say i was very patient.

Here are a few things to think about when purchasing a new TV

Plasma-

Reflects lighting TREMENDOUSLY. So take that into thought when buying a tv, and where you are going to place it.

The colors are fuller, as in..

Your darks are darker and your whites are whiter.

These TVs, are NOT the best thing to have if you have kids that watch tv a whole lot. They tend to leave the tv on, and sit in front of it for hours upon hours EVERYDAY. Leading to burning images into the screen over an extended period of time.

LCD-
Does not reflect light as easily
cheaper
WILL NOT burn images into the screen.

My personal opinion.. I would get either a 1080p LCD samsung 750, or..

The new plasma.

Called the KURO. The newest one, its just. wow.. if you are looking for a spectacular picture, buy this tv. Sure you can get a 120hz 1080p TV.. anywhere.. but the kuro edition is something else. Its really something to see.

Find one in a local bestbuy.

at the moment, we have them on sale. From 4,999.99 down to 2,649.99 with 100$ off any blue ray player ( ps3 not included).

I know you said 2k is not in your budget but its really a nice tv.

Also, what size is your room? That will help me better determine how big of a tv.

Be sure to get the HDMI cables, we have rocketfish brand 120hz cables, or the monster 1000's. Both of them are the cables you need to be getting. At the moment, they are top of the line.

If you need a deal as well, just let me know..

living room is fairly small and i have no kids. I will sit approx. 25 ft away. My wife and i work the majority of the day, so tv watching is done only 1-2 hours at night when we relax. i only play xbox on saturdays, because its the only time im alone with out the wife bugging me to do stuff.

I dont do the blu ray player & im not a big movie guy either. i used to have a 37" and i felt that was a good size for my living room. i think 50" would have been the biggest i would have gone, but i couldnt afford that right now. i could have.....they gave me a limit twice the amount i spent.....but i also have to know my limits.
