Body Kit problems

I recently purchased the Blazon Couture body kit, complete, and now the body shop (Hagen Collision) in Utah claims they need to make all sorts of modifications in order for it to fit, if they can make it fit at all. They want to charge a total of 3 grand for the project. Listening to their explanations and recommended mods, honestly, it seems that the body ship is ill equipped, in knowledge anyway, on how to install this OEM to fit kit specific for my car (2003 Eclipse GTS). Any recommendations on other body shops in Utah? Any recommendations at all? The kit was ordered from here (00-05 Mitsubishi Eclipse Couture Blazon Body Kit - Urethane by:)

Thank you,

Brian

the blazon kit was a rework of the bomex style kit with blitz style sides and rear. the original molds became so messed up over time they had to remake the kit. it took over 3 years to make. how do i know this? my car was used to to test fit the blazon kit. i was there at all test fittings. i can tell you this. The kit and molds had to have been made at least 10 times. the second to last test fit, the blazon kit fit like a glove. it bolted up easy peazy. the only thing that was wrong was some of the bolt holes were off. i tested the actual production pieces, (they came right off the shelf), and they bolted up pretty much like the stock pieces. the only place that i noticed that was off was on the front bumper where the point connects to the fender. it stuck out a little. but there was enough meat that it could be sanded down. after removing all the stock bumpers and side skirts, the blazon kit only took about 30 min to install. There were two us.

my guess, try another shop. or try and bolt the kit up yourself and see how it mounts/lines up. its not hard to do. also 3 grand for a kit to be installed , molded and a hella good paint job is not out of the question.

This is usually the problem with buying a body kit. Most of the time, you get what you pay for the kit and many of the kits you will see around now are just ebay knock-offs of the originals. Some people get lucky and others get screwed over buying kits like these and I'm not surprised at all that they priced you at 3 grand to have it installed.

Good call, this should probably be moved to problem reports. I didn't even look which forum this was in

Frustrating

Unfortunately I work out of the country, supporting our troops in a contract position. That's why i had to use a body shop. Frustrating. I am searching for another shop that has experience with this. From what i read online and now from your post, it seemed like this kit was a good fit for the car. Thanks for the information!

honestly 3 grand for all the prep work, and paint and all that jazz, for good results is a fair price. what did you think it was going to cost? at least half of that is probably paint. i know people that spent over twice what is being asked for a good kit install. you always get what you pay for.

I got charged 2,200 for my Eclipse and a WW kit.

3,000$ is a nice price for a decent paint job, especially with making that kit fit right.

Take it to someone local that knows how to install the kit.. have them prep it and then take it back to your paintguy just to paint ONLY.. this will save you lots of money.. There are lots of people out there that know and specialize in installing body kits which require minor modifications at times.. Your body shop probably only used to all the OEM parts from factories.

Good Luck!

Also urethane is a lot harder to modify than fiberglass.. That's why I go with fiberglass which can be cut easily and modified. But you sure can hit or scrape a few curbs with less issues.

I went through the same thing just a couple of months ago. I purchased the VIS version of that same Bomex-looking front end. A friend of mine owns a shop and did the install. For the extra work he had to do to the front end and the additional problems with the fiberglass hood fitment. He charged me an extra $700 (remember... this is a friend. Anyone else would have charged easily twice that for all of the work he had to do) for all of the fitting, fiberglassing, and rework that had to go into making it fit properly. Oh... and it only took 7 weeks to complete! I'd say that you will probably encounter roughly the same pricing wherever you go. It looks great in the end, but my friend now refers to my car as the "Nightmare Project". Good luck!
