Anybody know if K&N offers an oil filter for a 03 RS 4 cyl??? I found one online for a 01 eclipse but im not sure if its the same...

if there is no such thing as a K&N oil filter, then what do you guys use? I had a mustang pre-eclipse and fell in love with that nut thing they put on bottom (and the quality of the filter)

what the gripes you guys have about them?

+1 for changing own oil.... I like doing it, I may spend like 30 dollars for mobil 1 + filter but I think its worth it plus I actually like doing it...

a synthetic oil change in CT is like 70 dollars  booo!

A mobil one oil filter is my second choice for oil filters, but for 3 more dollars I would rather just use K&N, there may not be a difference in performance, but i hate using oil filter wrenches because sometimes they get stuck and crap... the nut on the end is so damn convenient... plus im saving 30 + dollars anyway doing it myself, mind as well go balls out and get the Cadillac oil filter if you know what i mean

Thanks for the fast reply guys

grab the filter with a strap wrench or get a pair of box handling gloves (wrinkly rubber hands, woven back). i just use the gloves, gives me a good grip on the filter and i can spin it off by hand every time.

I used puroilater on my Audi until they changed them to made in some sweatshop crap (the whole style changed, along with a big MADE IN ***) and i leaked oil all over because of a crappy seal.

What type of oil do you guys run? I used 5w-20 mobil extended performance full synthetic in my audi/mustang... is that viscosity good for a 4cyl too?

I was just searching for info on K&N (K & N) oil filters and figured I would add that the model # for the V6/GT is HP-1004 I picked a couple up today @ Autozone. HP-1004 has the nut on the bottom of the case which is why I switched to K&N. I was previously using Purlator and Fram filters. FWIW, I'm using Mobil 1 synthetic oil.

I'm going to try the one Bitter recommended. If I could regularly count on someone to do it right and without a long wait, I'd still have someone do it just to save me the time and mess. I'm sick of shoddy work and I've got a decent set of ramps now, so I'm just doing it myself these days. When I count my time as money, going someplace was cheaper, but it's not when I have to go back there and yell at them to fix what they didn't get right.

First of all its Pennzoil.

Pennzoil, FRAM, and Quaker State are all the same thing, pieces of shit. I pick up a K&N for 9 something from Autozone, never gave me any trouble and I love how it has the nut on the end of it. Over here the Mobil1 and K&N are only a dollar or so in difference so I recommend the K&N. Yea you can buy a cheap filter and worry all the time but think about it this way, its an extra couple $1 bills and you have piece of mind.

do not use STP filters either i tried two different ones and they both leaked at the top.. i only use OEM or Mobil 1... i understand about the nut on the K&N but its just and extra tool you have to use when you can just take it off by hand

2k miles into a mobil1 extended performance filter and mobil1 synthetic oil. it still looks like i just poured it out of the bottle and barely smells like used oil.
