I'm sick of burning songs I like onto cd's when I should just be able to listen from my ipod. I know there are some guys that work in the car audio field so does anyone want to give me some ideas on some good desks. I've always had a pioneer, but those are starting to look kinda ugly to me with the single knob.

the cubby is just there to fill in the hole left by the lowend single dins. all the good stock CD players were multidisk double dins. so you are not eliminating the cubby... you would be filling the hole back in, and getting rid of the bandaid.

kenwood kdc-x592 i believe its discontinued on crutchfield but if you find one its pretty solid.
pros:ipod compatible, tons of settings, different displays(choose what info you want displayed and how) has a lock out code when battery is disconnected, has a cool button that drops the volume really low which is useful if you get a phone call or in a drive through

cons: 2 knob system takes getting used to, dam near invisible display in direct sunlight, when you want to change songs on the ipod and you go through the list(as opposed to just hitting next) you have to start from the top of the list. which is a pain when changing gears and trying to find another song

Not to hijack... I am very interested in this too. I have a 3rd/4th gen iPod (the older ones) But what are some units that are the easiest for "PlugNPlay" with the ipod? DIN size doesnt matter for me (I have a 4 disc now)

Couple years ago I had a Pioneer P9600MP but the extra wiring I had to do with that ipod adapter and the slowness of it made it sucky and i ended up selling it later on.

Well I created a quick picture book so you can view a double din... I have mine connected to a ZUNE but it dont charge it. I found an iPod on Ebay so I will tranfer all my movies and music videos on to it, mount it in the glove box, and control it from the radio while it charges it also. Just an ideal....

i personally am running an alpine EX-10 with the sock headunit. it is technically an antenna in.. but with the extra (you gotta buy it separately) antenna "harness" it has the ability to stop ALL incoming radio signals, thus eliminating static. i love it. it is also not only an IPOD controller, but also a handsfree bluetooth kit, and it will stream stereo bluetooth from your phone, if you are like me and use your phone for your music (my GF uses the ipod part.. it gave the best of all worlds.)

I say go with any of the Alpines in a 200.00 range. Its easy plug and play and you can control everything from your headunit which is kool and easy. I have anice Alpine Headunit but I am debating If I should sell it or not.....If I do decide to I will let you know. Alos Alpien charges your Ipod automatically so you dont have to worry about battery life

pioneer p6000ub

Just put one in my daughters car, connected to the stock amp and speakers, with a new center channel. The ipod interface is built in--you control from the hed unit via a usb cable, and there's also a secondary mini-stereo plug input.

Check the reviews on Crutchfield, very good. The model was just discontinued, but they're still in stock at Amazon. Don't know about the successor model listed, it's a little more than what I paid for the one I have.

I haven't installed one of these these things in ten years, and I remember looking about 18 mos ago and the ipod interface was usually an addon. The current prices and capabilities are amazing. I may even dig out my old db meter and try equalizing the car.

DEH-P4000UB
That's what i have in my stratus, comes with a USB port/cord extension so you can hook up the iPod/Jump drive to listen to music. You control the songs, play lists, pod cast's Etc. on the CD player or with the remote. Oh and also has AUX ports on the front and back in case you have something other then the iPod.
Pretty cheap in price too.

^^^ you have the p4000...
I have the Pioneer Premier DEHP400UB (comes with 3 or 4 foot USB extension and an I-pod compatability cable, which i ran through the CC, underneath the armrest, in that compartment)

i got it off of amazon for $105, it plays and charges the I-pod, but doesn't have passenger control (I-pod control) control is through the Head Unit itself. via remote or Head unit buttons.

I also plugged an I-pod into it today, and sound quality is crystal clear. Controls took me about 2 minutes to fully understand, but it also reads I-pod playlists. I didn't fully test everything it could do with it though, because i don't have an I-pod and only used it for a few minutes.
