I wouldn't recommend retaining the back seats if you plan on using harnesses. If you wanted to use racing seats and stock seat belts however, you would be okay.

With a harness, you would need to incorporate a roll cage or a harness bar. You could also hook them to where the upper rear seat mount (that's a bad idea though). Anyways, having a harness bar or roll cage would make it extremely dangerous for rear passengers in the event of an accident or sudden hard braking, with risks of them lunging forward and hitting their head/face.....not to mention making it harder than it already is to climb into the rear seats.

I think it really depends. I know I have been looking for a new set. The stock seats in a 2g are horrible compared to those in the 3g. They are very small and uncomfortable. Being 6'5...I really need to get seats that sit me lower to the floor and offer better support. While I am nowhere near ready to take this car to the track, the seats are very practical and would make the car that much more enjoyable.

With the height problem, I also have to think about the steering wheel. When I go with a smaller wheel, I will also be losing the airbag, meaning I will most surely be going with a 3 or 4 point harness. Anyone who has ever been up close to a 2g knows the back seats are completely worthless anyways, so I'll be able to get away with a harness bar.

I don't think any car modification can really be considered a waste of money....especially if it increases the happiness and excitement of the person behind the wheel.

Well the OP has a gt so he might have srs in his seat like me. Removing those will disable your air bags.

Heres my question whats the purpose behind gettin racing seats and a harness. I assume its a daily driver cause your worried about the back seats. The proper way to mount a harness will make the back seats useless.

I'm surprised this topic still gets debated. GMC I put Sparco's in my 2G and I love them and I'm putting my EVO VII steering wheel in this week as soon as my SRS clockspring gets delivered. I did it just for vanity as unlike yourself I'm only 6' 1" 150lbs. I know what you mean about the comfort, Greg let me know his discomfort when he first had to drive my GSX after I put the Sparco's in it as he's a bit larger than me. About the SRS light, I pretty much gave the solution to that in another thread about this same subject which Greg told me but I guess I'm going to have to show and prove it for the SRS light topic to be put to rest. I agree that getting a harness in a daily driven 3G where you still plan to use your back seats is pointless. If you want to be cute just get the front seats.

I have not put a resistor on them if that is what you are getting at. I know and have followed the debate for a long time on this subject and understand the associated risks involved with the course of action I am on right now.

For what it's worth, I have a 2000 and was plagued by the defect with the driver's seat and airbag that affected many early models. I specifically asked this question to the dealership way back when because essentially the problem was the connector on the driver's seat was faulty and the system would think it was not connected. I asked them if the car thought it was disconnected would the rest of the system work in a crash. They said that it would, but who knows if that guy knew exactly what he was talking about.
