NEW UPDATE, I did my timing belt and noticed misfires P0301 & P0304 after about 200 miles (about a month later) so I changed all NGK plugs, NGK wires, upper intake manifold gasket, distributor cap & rotor, water pump kit, O2 sensors (the whole 9 yards) and got the WRX like sound after work was done in the garage, later they did something and fixed the noise and let me drive away. now i'm getting a ticking/knocking kind of noise when I step on the gas peddle while cruising. I checked this up in another garage and they said it could be the combustion with cylinders and that the engine is old and should be rebuilt/replaced (I was like who has money for that shit) so they suggested I don't drive hard and take it easy on the throttle so i've been driving like an 70 year old grandma ever since. Now i'm getting P0301 again. what should I do here?, based on what I've read from other threads all I found out was to check the timing belt position on teeth, replace coolant temperature sensor, check the distributor cap or gape the spark plugs. any suggestions?

My eclipse has been doing the same sort of tick, did all the previous stated fixes all the way up to replacing all lifters, noise is still there. It seems to me to be an issue with the belt/pulley assembly that's causing the noise. After some research and hard thinking i believe it just might be the timing belt tensioner, idler pulley or even the harmonic balancer. Just sounds like something is off center and freely slapping around. If anyone else has looked into this could you shed some light on my theory?

Most of this "lifter tick" is probably your purge valve solenoid doing its job. And reving your car up however many times will never ever fix a tick coming from your valves. Run a slightly thicker, high mileage oil if your worried. Posted for searches.

Hi, thanks for your solution, I'ts now been 9 months since I did any major repairs on my car and so far it's been holding up really well and I haven't had any problems (knock on wood). However the loud tick/knocking sound is getting worse, I tried pouring gumout multi system tune up into the break booster and revving engine, pouring into crank case & gas tank then flushing the engine with Liqui moly 2 times with cheap snake oil and then replaced with Valvoline Maxlife High Mileage 5W-30. I've also tried MMO in the crank case for a while now but nothing seem to work. At this point, I am like 80% sure the engine is super clean inside so the tick/knock may not be caused by any sludge or carbon buildup inside. I have a strong feeling the lash adjusters, rocker arm or lifters might be causing this loud noise but not sure yet. Someone please advise what I should do at this point, thank you

Try the tested and true 1/2 qt of ATF in with the engine oil then report back after a week.
