2000 Mitsu Eclipse Gt 120k miles 5 speed mt

So i lifted my Car the other day to change my wheels and i noticed something a bit odd. I started the car with front end up and put the car in first gear. Only the left wheel spins. when i go over to the right one, i can put my foot on it and move it reverse or forward. At first i was thinking it was a broken axle or the transmission. Is this normal for our cars?

my car would squeak when i would first start it up and drive so i wanted to know if it was the suspension or something to do with the drive axle. the sound halt when i would come to a complete stop

Wow. Yes it's normal. To make them both spin you need one of these:

A Quaife LSD:

thats wierd cuz i have a 3g rs and when i try to do burn outs both of them spin not just one and mine is stock
 Of course they'll both spin on the ground. The power goes to the drivers side. Do what the OP did and then you'll see.

i get what you are saying: you don't know how a differential works.
do some research on what a "differential" is, and more psecifically look up open diffs, and LSD's etc.

you will then understand.

if you want just weld the spiders closed you would get both wheels to turn ALL the time... but turning would destroy the car. (outside needs to spin faster in turn, hence the Limited Slip Differential)

some people like myself don't know what lsd's are for, maybe this thread helped a few people out and answered some questions other people might have had :dunno:

funny.. my GTS spins both tires when lifted up in the air.... i tried it when i was instaling my exhaust and i strongly doubt the previous owner changed to an LSD! or did he?.... is there an 'easy' way to find out??
