I can easily tell you there is no right hand drive Eclipse, of any generation. This platform was designed and built only for the North American continent, and the Eclipse does not exist outside of this continent. Even though it is a Mitsubishi product, I truly consider this car a domestic, solely due to the origins of the car.

 

I know for a fact that people in other countries have these cars. Mitsu sold them in Russia also. I dont know if they are RHD tho.

 

That's what I thought. I think I may still look into this some, as far as possibly swapping RHD parts from a Japan-spec EVO or something and seeing if I can make it work...it'd definitely be different...

As for the JDM thing...I'm not a big follower of JDM stuff. What others do to their cars is indifferent to me. I don't like following a crowd and simply doing whatever is "in" at the time. Instead, I like to sway away from the crowd.

With regards to the Brits going crazy over my left hand drive car...I'm sure they would. They'd probably go more crazy over the Harley since the model I have coming isn't for sale yet there, and even once it is, it would be modified to meet England's weird standards. Plus I'd rather have a one of a kind Eclipse that would be easier to drive over there, and really stand out from the crowd over here. I could just see the look on the gate guard's face when he walks up to the wrong side of the car to check my ID...

i'm sure that none of you will believe me, but at my 1st BTN i was hanging outside with the cars (i got there too late for the tour) and there were about 5 japanese guys with one roundeye named Bob Ford, he introduced himself, asked me some questions, i waved at the japanese guys and asked him what they were here for. he explained that they were going to ship about 500 USDM 3G's to Japan as part of a publicity campaign for something which i cant remember. supposedly they were going to make them legal to drive in japan and give them away at contests or some such nonsense. personally i think we've done enough harm to japan what with the nukes and all, why do this to them as well? :lol:

 

honestly i dont think it would be that hard to do it. i was thinking about it on the way home today and decided to search to see if it was talked about. It's possible because the master cylinder for the brakes could be switched to the other side and clear with no problem. The only thing you would have to modify is the steering linkage going from the wheel to the rack. The dash looks exactly the same so you could simply just everything from one side to the other with some fixing up. Im sure its possible though and not quite as hard as everybody thinks.

 

You'd have to swap all the wiring to the other side too...well, probably hack the harness and up extend whatever wires wouldn't just reach. I agree the brakes probably wouldn't be that hard to do. That's why I was thinking about using a RHD steering rack that has basically the same dimensions (if there is one) and adapting as necessary. I know it wouldn't be a bolt-together modification, but I don't mind doing a little welding here and there...

 

Actually in Japan there were 3G's as well. They did not export any liftbacks to Japan, but they did sell the Eclipse Spyer and it showed its face on Japanese Dealer floor's.

But if i remember the Japanese Spec Eclipse-Spyder was as well LHD.

whats the point of throwing 4 12's in a car or 500hp in the car?? its because you want to do it whether anybody agrees or not. its your own personal car so you want it to stand out from every other eclipse on the road. theres no point to fixing up a car in alot of peoples eyes but we all do it because we all love cars.

 

So I'm gonna b attempting this end swap in the next few weeks just cuz I have a lot of knowledge on doing it, it is really simple already figured wat i need and really its not that costly just takes a lil time wish me luck ill keep this updated
