Mo betta pictures cometh later. First impressions - bad ass. Steering is awesome, shifts are lightning quick and handles fantastic even with the all season tires (used car with 3k, had cold weather package). Brakes are uber compared to the Vette. Went out to dinner and already experienced my first swarm of ricers when I walked back to the car. They seemed nice enough, let them sit in it for a while for a closer look.

The car was being detailed at another location, so the sales guy drove us over in this to go pick it up:

Probably the only time I'll ride in a $300,000 car (Rolls Royce Phantom). Real fucking baller shit right there, 2 fold out LCD screens that you operate like the tray in an airplane for the rear passengers. I was afraid to tough anything on it, but it was certainly impressive stuff. They had a 08 Lambo Gallardo on the lot, wife got a ride in it before we left. The sales guy that drove it kept saying how much of a piece of shit it was because of the shifting, not smooth at all and not as quick as the GT-R. Looked nice though.

I'm sure that this is where the upgrades end. I feel bad now that I've had 3 different cars while the wife is still on her same car, next car is her turn for sure. That, and we'll probably start a family over the next few years.

Speaking of families, was showing the car to a few co-workers in the parking lot this morning on the way out. One of them said, "Well, at least we all have kids, right?" 3-4 of them with kids laughed for a few seconds and then it was just silence for a bit while they all stared at the ground.

Security at a nuclear power plant. From what I understand, we're the highest paid Nuclear Security Officers in the industry as we are in house rather than trained and employed by a 3rd party company (Wackenhut). It's one of the easiest jobs out there, it's not uncommon that I'll spend 8+ hours a night playing video games. Many of our posts we're basically there in case shit happens and not sitting in a fish bowl or performing some random patrol.

I've never driven or ridden in a ZR1, but as for the Z06, the only advantage it has is it's straight line acceleration. Just my opinion of course. Corvette people are generally hard to talk to about the GTR, many are disgusted with it and refuse to believe it's accomplishments or capabilities. They fail to realize that the GTR is a good thing, competition inspires innovation and improvements. Without competition, we're stuck with steering wheel controls and power assist rear hatch closure.

The steering in the Z06 is terrible, I have no idea what they were thinking when they built the thing. Seats are comfortable but not built for track duty at all, they are built for old fat men/women. I wouldn't even say they are sufficient for some good canyon carving as I slide around in the seat way too much and I'm just an average build guy - 5'10" @ 210 lbs. You can only brace yourself with your knee so much.

Interior is very cheap and the steering wheel is huge and looks shared with the Cobalt and various Saturns. I'll miss the HUD and the turn signal operation (one tap, 3 blinks), but that's about it, pretty sad.

Stock suspension is a bit jittery in the corners, rear end feels like it's dancing around too much and doesn't inspire too much confidence. Easy fix with upgraded shocks or changing to coilovers, but of course that costs money that I didn't want to spend.

Brakes are okay, but no where near the bite and stopping power as the GTR with 700-800 more lbs. The cute little multiple pad design for the Z06 is ridiculous, most every one who upgraded their brakes switched back to a single pad design.

So is there anything I like about the Z06? Sure. The thing is an absolute monster on the freeway. Gas mileage kicks ass, I was averaging 25-28 on the freeway, the GTR was about 18-20. I really liked the looks of the Z06, but hated the fact that there are way too many C6s on the road. I don't live in a big area, but I usually see and wave back to 1-2 C6s on my short drive home from work.. at 7am. The bi-mode exhaust is a fantastic idea and should be in more cars IMO. Want to be loud and have exhaust drone dripping down your face? Pull the fuse and keep the valves open. Going on a trip and don't feel like yelling to your passenger? Keep the fuse in. They actually make remotes to change this mode from the seat of your car or even from the outside of your car, good stuff.

The Z06 was an impulse buy, it was just too sexy sitting on the lot and the acceleration compared to my Evo IX MR (350whp) was insane. After the economy tanked, I lost about $15k in value alone on my used Z06. :( Never again will I buy another GM vehicle, or at least a GM sports car. Too much money would have had to been spent just to get the car the way it should have been from the factory. It's a good car, but not for me apparently.

Wow, that's amazing. This is pretty coincidental, I just graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice in a certificate in security management. I always planned on being a cop once I graduated, but in my security program I realized how well paid and rewarding a security position can be, especially if you do consulting and whatnot. Reading about it in texts and stuff is different than hearing about a true-life case.

So, uh...you hiring?

Why would there be harsh chemicals in the air at a nuclear power plant? A nuclear power plant generates electricity by submerging uranium in ionized water. As the water boils from the radiation emitted by the uranium rods, the pressurized steam is funneled into a turbine generator that produces electricity.

Jon, excellent upgrade! And thanks for the review on the C6Z06. It's disappointing that GM is still only doing so much to improve the quality and execution of their vehicles, even the ones in the Z06's price bracket  If you don't mind saying, what did you get in trade for her? I'm curious how bad the depreciation is on one of them.

Oops, I missed this post somehow. Anyway, thanks! :)

May 2008 I bought it used with 13k miles for $53k, which was a pretty good deal at the time. When I traded it in, $38k is what I got for it with 30k miles. :( Some dealers wanted to give me even less.

jsut saw my first one the other day...in the 'hood! (wonder how he afforded it...) I thought it looked good in pics and on tv, but when you see it in person it blows your mind! Fit and finish were awesome and the sound it makes is wicked cool. Makes my GTO look like a turd. Oh well, in 10 years maybe I can get a used one :hahano:

Great buy and great color. Do you wear a lead nut cup to work?:fawk:
