I cant wait till i find my cts-v so i can start playing with a ls2 or ls6. In your opinion what engine do you feel is better and why?

 

LS6 is more fun in stock form, higher redline and rev's a bit more freely.

But if you're going to mod, go with the extra displacement of the LS2. Old adage always holds true.

 

I'm jealous. Post a dyno vid when your done. Or any vid.

Good, it's nice to know that you finally found a vehicle porky enough to hold down them thar jackstands. I understand in the Pedrick household jackstands are a flight risk :agreed:

 

I kind of remember back in the day once one of YDRSBTR's vehicles got up on jackstands, it had little hope of ever reconnecting with the ground below.

 

This time... No used parts, no fabrication, no major, permanent modifications to the car.

I have no experience with the LS6, so I can't comment with any sort of real authority. I can say, though, that the LSX engine line responds very well to breathing modifications, so it's assured that you'll have a blasty-blast with whichever you choose.

 

Why the hell would you waste your time modding a piece of shit like a GTO. They are nothing more than a G6 with rear wheel drive! And slow!...I bet an RS would walk it.

From what I have seen since I hae had my GTO and I am sure Doric will back me up on this:
YOU NEED TO FIND A TUNER THAT KNOWS WHAT THE HELL HE/SHE IS DOING!
I have seen a tuner "tune" a car and get an extra 10hp out of it or like mine an extra 20hp. Handheld tuners do an ok job but are not near as good a dyno tune. These engines are very restricted from the factory: fuel/air ratios are wrong, highly restrictive parts etc.
For example: and Ls2 GTO from the factory (mine):
Base Line #s: 332rwhp/314rwtq
JUST DYNO TUNE # (no mods, down to stock air filter):352rwhp.348rwtq!
Now if you were to do the "basic bolt-ons" - LT Headers, high flow cats/cat back exhaust, high flow air filter (jury is still out on if CAI's do that much MORE for these engines), underdrive pully, and a GOOD DYNO TUNE: +/-450rwhp/450rwtq

I really only know one person that has done a LS6 swap and she puts down good numbers but I am sure that the aftermarket is $$$$. For the LS1/LS2 it is pricey, but I am sure that it is REALLY HIGH for the LS6.

My .02, get a G8 or a GTO and use the money you save to make it faster than a CTS-V. You can get a GTO so cheap now ($15000-20000), the $10,000+ you will save by not getting the CTS-V will get you a Maggie or ProX + all nessesary mods. Then you are looking at a 650hp car that will run mid to low 11's.

 

Nice GOAT doric. Best of luck with the work. Keep us updated. I wish I could mess with my G8 GT like that but it's my DD. Just planning on doing an I/E and a 91 octane dyno tune and calling it a day. Having a low 13's DD is more than enough for me.

I was definitely not satisfied with the STS. I put a ton of work into essentially re-engineering the kit at relatively great expense (eliminated the janky STS PCV system, tapped the oil pan for the return, eliminated the catalytic converters, wrapped the pre-turbo exhaust twice over, etc.), but it was still pretty laggy. I'm sure that I could have beat the lag with a good 3200 RPM stall, but at the time, I wasn't ready to do that sort of thing.

I bought the STS kit used and it was a lot of headache with tracking down leaks, etc. While I looked really hard at the two TT setups that were on the market, I decided that there was just too much permanent modification required. Things like cutting multiple holes in the sheetmetal, or the engine cradle, or the engine cradle and the sheet metal, relocating the battery to the trunk, etc. The Procharger setup actually cost me a little more (~$8500 after fueling mods and gauges), but I feel very confident in the kit. It's fantastic in terms of quality and, so far, although it's a really tight fit, everything lines up as it should.

Soo... My son had his first wrestling tournament on Saturday, which occupied the majority of the day. Afterward, I attended a friend's surprise birthday party. So no work was done on Saturday.

Sunday, I failed hard at taking pics. But I got the cam swap completed (cam, valvesprings, pushrods) and the Fluidamper installed and pinned. Mounted the blower bracket and blower, and started the radiator hose modifications required.

Still waiting for the fuel goodies and the headers, so there wasn't much else that could be done. I suppose I could have done some of the suspension mods in the meantime, but by the end of the day, I was a whipped puppy.

 

Doric, you need to box up those electric fans and send them my way...lol... I need a set for my Lightning...
