My 6g75 arrived in the mail today :) :) 49,000 miles on it.

I was going to put all these details in my members ride thread but just decided to make a swap thread instead. I will be updating with pictures and details along the way. Not sure when it will be done, Since I have never done anything like this before I am taking my sweet time and making sure I get it done right so it will probably be some time before the swap is complete.

Ok so I have a question about this picture, I bought some rust dissolver gel and have been generously applying it to the block in attempt to clean it so i can prep it for paint but its not doing shit. My friend let me borrow his dremel so I guess I could use the sanding bit but that would take fooorreeevveer..Any suggestions on rust removal/ prep work for painting the block?

Crank Pulley Kit I rented from advanced, either I am doing something wrong or this kit dosnt have the right tool but I can not for the life of me get the dam crank pulley bolt off. Tried impact gun and breaker bar. So I am stuck here until I can get this bastard off.

I also purchased alldata to help me with any problems I may run into. Let me know what you guys think so far

Looks good. As for the crank pully, I haven't pulled one off our cars, but if there are 2 bolt holes in the crank your going to want to use the silver adapter. That cone adapter inbetween the silver and black adapter, your going to want to thread the big bolt into either the silver or black one. Then put the cone in the end of the black bolt. Next line up silver or black on onto the pulley with the cone centered. You should get an idea on what to do.

I was using the silver adapter earlier, putting two bolts through it into the 2 holes on the pulley. Then sticking an open end socket through the middle of the silver adapter into the crank bolt,then attaching an extension+breaker bar to it. Then turning counter clockwise while a friend was holding another breaker bar in between the bolt to apply force clockwise in order to keep the pulley from turning counter clock wise. This did not work though.. IDK I think I need to get one of these

How much did you pay for it? How much was shipping? Where did you get it?

Now Beriant, that motor looks pretty good. It just needs a little touching up. Get all the little accessories you'll need together because I want to see this bad boy off that pallet skid and running before the years out. ;)

Got a Galant in the shop for a 5spd swap along w/ a 75. The list is growing! :D

Thank you, haha me 2. I have been tuning my 00 for a while now so that is no problem. The real problem is the 00 definition file not defined very well, Im afraid not being able to adjust the injector scalings will have some negative affects. I can change the injector latency but that alone is not enough to dial in the bigger injectors correct?

Edit: in case you didnt know scooby it dosnt matter anymore if you have 7203 or 7202 processor, both are tunable using the latest version of ecuflash and tactrix 2.0 cable + the correct mem model if you have the 7202

I live in TN, I got my motor for 675 shipped to my garage from birmingham, New york, It has 49k miles on it and is out of an 05 galant ls

Finesse: Good to hear, yea I have all the accessories needed and ready to go except the stuff that is still on my 72 in the eclipse. Im waiting to take my 72 out until the 75 is ready to be dropped in less the parts from the 72.

Me 2 man I cant wait to start it up. It will definitely be before the year is up,hopefully before the month is up if all goes as planned.

M-rod: I have not really thought that far down the road yet, I am just concentrating on getting it healthy and running for now. But something that has always been planned for my car was boost so perhaps the 75 will see some of that later on. And I will want a 5 speed swap in the future but that is a while from now.


As far as the rust goes I bought some carbon steel wire brushes for my 30k rpm dremel and it dosnt do shit. Some places with light rust will start chipping away but the majority of it is unaffected by them. What do I do about this DAM rust!

Luke: I wish I had something to rig up to get the bastard off but the only things I have didnt work. I am going to try and hunt down this mitsu specific tool I need, I hope its not going to cost a shit load of money though for something I will probably use a few times.

And all of you who bother to spend untold many many hours cleaning the block will realize two years later that 30 minutes would have been good enough because the block will look just like it did the day it arrived on your doorstep.

Hey good luck on your swap. Seems like you got everything you need. Cant wait to see it run.

Also, the way I got my pulley off was get Locking Chain Pliers from Autozone or so, chain up the pulley, make sure the pliers have something they can grab on to, and break off the nut with a breaker bar. See if that helps.

Blackout: what makes you say soon? are there any updates on getting the 00 file further defined?

scooby: no problem, if you need any help getting everything sorted out to tune your 00 just send me a pm.

pharm: I realized this after a few hours spent cleaning, I decided to just get rid of as much rust as possible, degrease it, clean it and then spray some engine enamel on it and call it a day. No points in spending so much time when A) like you said it will just look like that again and B) you cant even see any of it when the engine is in your bay.

Some updates for the day. Been working for about 12 hours today on it.
Got the crank pulley off finally! Almost took my friends finger off doing it but we got it. Also I have everything pulled off of my 72 thats in my car,only thing left is the axles and the mounts and then the engine/tranny will be ready to come out.

My 75 is nearly ready to be dropped in, Just need a few more parts from the 72 and it will be good to go. Once I get my 72 out I will be replacing the water pump,belts,pulleys on the 75 and then finishing up on the brackets and installing the poly mount inserts. Then she will be ready to be dropped in!!

I also have pictures for everyone,first few pictures I wanted to ask everyone what they thought about the condition of everything you see,I thought it looked pretty dam good but wanted second opinions.

Had my friend take the grinder to the welds on the exhaust so we could get the headers off,I have no idea why the last shop I took my car to for the exhaust decided to weld all that shit together.

BTW, the guy in all these pictures is not me, Thats a good friend of mine that has been helping out a lot with the swap. I have been the one taking all the pictures lol.


I was hoping to have the 72 out tonight but I didnt have a socket big enough for the drive shaft bolts. I have never touched an axle before so does anyone have any suggestions when I start to disconnect them tomorrow? I rented a set of tools from advanced that look like big forks to aid in the process.


Overall I am pretty happy with the progress made so far, especially considering I have never done anything like this before. I am dam glad I decided to do it though, I have been having a blast. Seeing my car like this for the first time is awsome. This have been a great experience for me so far and will only get better, I cant wait to feel the reward of driving a 3g with a 3.8 in it :D

Unless I'm missing something you will be the first Eclipse with the 3.8 non mivec. I think all the others have been Stratuses and Galants.
No, you're not missing something. I mentioned in another members 3.8L non-MIVEC swap thread not too long ago that silverside was the 1st and still the only 3G to have a 3.8L 6G75 of any kind in it to which you responded. It's about damn time another member with a 3G stepped up.

Axles are pretty easy. Remove the cotter pins and go at the bolts. I'm not sure if you will have to remove the centercaps in your wheels and go at the bolts while its on the ground. That's what I did, but I think we could have done it with the car in the air.

Besides that, the axles should slide out. You might use the fork for separating the brakes from the ends of the axle. Then you also have to remove the half-shaft bracket on the block in order get that shaft out. It's fairly easy.

Update for everyone. No pics though I am too tired and worn out to even bother with uploading all the pictures right now. I have been working all day every day since I got this engine and it will suck the energy out of you quick lol.

I have the engine/tranny out of my car, cleaned my empty engine bay pretty well. Now I am in the process of transferring all the components needed for the swap from the 72 to the 75. Then doing a timing job with all new components. Once that is done I will be swapping the front valve covers and then putting the tranny on the 75.

After that is done I will be dropping the engine/tranny into my car and start putting her all back together!

I have been reading about cars and 3g's for nearly 2 years but the most extensive mechanical work I had ever done was swapping the gts manifold on. It is amazing how much easier it is to understand and relate when you have everything laid out in pieces after you just took it all off. I have been having a great time doing this and the only problems Ive run into are bolts not coming off. Besides that I have not been confused or stuck on what to do. I laugh at my self for being scared a while back to even try to do something to my car.

On another note, I fucking hate crank pulley bolts. I had serious problems getting the one off the 75 but finally got it, Tonight I was trying to get the one off the 72 and I can assure you it is not coming off regardless of what you do to it. I have put so much fucking torque on that thing that it just stripped the inside groove for the open end socket. Not only that I have bent several bolts,steel bars and other sturdy objects in attempt to get it off. I have just given up and I am going to buy a new crank sensor wheel from the dealership and swap that over to the 75.

Also I found out that my lower control arm ball joints were shot as long with the tie rod ends. Getting those replaced on both sides and I will also be getting new axles because I think I may have damaged one on accident so to be on the safe side I am just going to replace it.

I also found some oil leaks and exhaust leaks on my old setup, My had lots of issues here and there. I am so glad to be fixing everything plus a 49k 3.8 motor. My car is going to run so much better than it did before, OK enough typing this post is long already.

The power difference in this thing is going to be incredible compared to your worn out 72. :yesway:

Just to let you all know. The factory exhaust probably will not bolt up. Like the 6g74 (3.5), the 6g75 block is wider and taller. The manifolds are spread out by about 3/4 of an inch and raised about that much due to the taller decked block. When I did my swap, I had to cut and extend my wye pipe to match up to my headers. I just recently had to replace my expansion joint on my exhaust due to too many burnouts and my heavy foot.
