Well I'm starting on the rebuild of my motor for the 3g, I'm sure some of you happened to of noticed the last thread I started, so here is the build thread, just going to start listing things off and taking pics as I do them. Firstly I got the motor stripped down, and its getting cleaned prepped, bored out and painted, for the bottom end assembly, I will be using the Brian Crower stroker kit, bringing the motor to 3.39L. after I get the motor back and get the new set, set in place, Ill post up the pics!!! Ill keep this thread updated as much as possible, and will have quite a few pics of the build with specs of the entire build.

:nono: why spend all that money. I'm sorry but it's hard to take this seriously now. My 6g74 has that stroke if im not mistaken and larger bore for a 3.5 liter. why not just get one of those. Plus forged crank and rods form factory (mitsubishi is MUCH more reliable than 3sx just read some reviews). the only thing i really like out of that are the pistons but you can get a 6g74 AND cp pistons for under a grand..... I'm seriously trying ot help you out since you are totally spending money the wrong way especially for displacement. Hell the 6g75 is cheaper from a junkyard than doing this and thats a 3.8.

#4 ·
you know that is a good point. why rebuild/stroke/bore a 6g72 if you can use a 6g74 block, and internals.. and those internals are good stuff too.

i would say, you might as well start with a 6g74, and if you still NEED that 6g72 heads try to put them on it.... then move your firewall to accommodate.

vr-4 heads don't clear the firewall by ALOT. That's why the easiest and by far simplest and to this day ONLY way to get better flowing heads is to either port the 74 head to death and install larger vlaves, or attempt what boostzealot is doing and i will be shortly with the 6g75 heads since they flow better than the DOHC heads from the factory.

Also, thats why Greg and Charles are doing the 6g75 along with silverside since it is just a better block all together. Longest stroke, largest bore, best flowing heads, it is literally just the best design.

BUT the point is there is no gain from a turned engine. Just more hard work and more custom fabrication for a build that in the end will cost as much as a turbo 6g75 and only be a measly turbo 6g72 dohc IF he even gets it to work which on one person in the entire world has done and he moved his entire firewall back 4 inches to do it. Most poeple skilled with mitsubishis know how to make the vr-4 swap work but it's just not worth the effort when compared to other builds you can do on this platform. Yes it is unique BUT it depends on how far you are willing to go with uniqueness. I'm looking at this from EVERY perspective and i just don't see the point as well as the majority on this forum which is why the OP got flamed so much in his original thread. Club3g is a learning experience and people are here to help. It's tough love though and you have to get used to it to be on this forum. Honestly the 6g75 swap IMHO would be the best thing for a great low end performance and a nice build. If that is too involving for you then you have the 6g74 swap. It's as if this what planned out by mitsu for people who want to do builds on different budgets (which it clearly wasn't). If you are willing to and have the knowledge to attempt a vr-4 swap then you should have no problem with the 6g75. Also, he is talkign about a full stroker kit. That is clearly WAY too expensive when there is a much easier solution. The people with vr-4's don't use that kit anymore since they have discovered the 6g74 and even they use it.

Hey guys sorry for the long wait to reply back to this, Im not spending the traditional 6k on that stroker kit woah nooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Ha I would def be dumb to spend that amount straight up for only an 8.5:1 compression, where I could easily build a kit with 10:1 cheaper, however, I found a guy 5 months ago that had the kit, and was an older gentlemen, and we talked one evening about my project and he just so happened to tell me about what he had, so I scored the kit for 1k, hes helping me with the build, and isnt too much out of pocket I suppose, so he just sold it super cheap. Now for the firewall, I have a question for you chavez eclipse, did the guy that did the vr4 into his eclipse use the 6 speed tranny and do the awd aws swap as well?

Chavez, man I do appreciate the advice, and you are completely correct on what a forum is for!!!! I do appreciate the criticism and you trying to help me! The thing is though, the only money Im actually spending on this project is to build the motor and tranny. All the fab work, I will be doing myself with my tools, so really alls it takes is my time no money for the fab, I have a graveyard of parts, and 5 junkyards within a 20 mile radius, so If I do happen to need anything at all, itll be cheap and quick to get!!! btw the reason I chose Brian Crower is because his components are in almost every leading time attack car in the us, idk if you guys follow time attack alot, but Im def a fan, I want the motor to be bomb proof and weight less!!!

the vr-4 swap was only the motor and he mounted it the factory oriented way. If you really had your heart set on those DOHC heads then you will have to move your whole firewall back about 4 inches. Not something you can hammer out. You could then do an awd drivetrain like what greg is doing (Pharmecis) but its complicated fab work. Thats why he is doing the 3.8 6g75 on his car and a built up 6g74 on the other charles.

I'll be impressed to see how it turns out, thats for sure. VR-4s were always my favorite Mutsubishi... it just sounds like you better have your heart AND soul in this project or it may go the same route of the VR-4... scrapped.

Well My heart and soul are def in it! As well as my wallet haha. Im doing a complete rebuild of the motor with all aftermarket internals, rebuilt heads, the works Ill be using the stock 96 and up forged crank to save some money itll be knifed and all that jazz, but Im having fun with it, and Ill def be having fun mocking up all the piping to make it fit. There will be 0% of frame or firewall fabrication, just tons of money in the motor I will be moving the locations of the battery and all fluid compartments to make more room, master cylinder delete kit, just to keep things simpler under the hood, external oil pump will be added as well as a fuel cell. Within this month however the only work Ill be doing to the car itself will be the new brake set up and possibly the new carbon sunroof replacement kit and the carbon doors painted factory color though. All motor work for now and the tear down and build up of the engine bay will be within the 2 following months, as long as everything goes as planned!!! Ill post up pics and new build thread on the other parts of the car asap. The motor build will remain in this thread. Thanks for the nice reply Solar, i appreciate it!

Ive got quite a bit of news to share on this build its gonna be funny to see the replys with the photos. Evo8 drivetrain, quaife everywhere, motor is ready to be built, and the best part, it fits with the heads on. Custom intake and turbo manifold headers for clearance, cant wait to blow your minds!:lol::lol:

Im niot using the evo 8 tranny, ill be using transfer case back.
When you say Evo8 drivetrain, that would include the tranny. So if you're not using the Evo VIII tranny what are you using?

(i wanna see the pics man. youve been saying for over a year you'd post pics as you go. WE NEED PICS, I really wanna see this. )

WHITE3GECLIPSEG, Im not sure how to repost cause im a retard, but I feel you, Im not very good at taking pictures, but as soon as I get the motor finished on its b uild I will shoot pics of the process placing it in, I know I should be documenting, but Im not that good at remembering, Im inpatient when it comes to building. Ive already done the mockup on a shell with the motor, so when its built heads and all are in place, I will shoot the pics up.
right now my personal ride is my 3g so upon my next car I will also be tering my eclipse apart and rebuilding it from the ground up. Im no tech wizard but I know what I need to do on the build, just not the wiring, I will be heading to tulsa for the stand alone system to be installed and tuned, as well as for my learning experience.

Im not trying to cause crap and I have no reason to lie, lieing does nothing for me, when i cant prove what im doing and obviously i get nothing but crap about what Im doing, so why would I continue to lie, I just want my car to be different, and Im building a motor with lots of torque and hp, with high stress capabilities. If you want an idea of what motor is going into my car check out pampena motorsports rays motor is what Im basing my motor on, I want around the same power not that much which is why im going with different turbos, I built up a custom intake for a better mid flow to all cylinders and it looks cleaner, as well as firewall clearance issues, the head however is fine fits with no space to spare between the lip but about 3 to 4 in from the firewall itself.

If you have questions ask, I will post up pics starting with the motor build itself, then on to the strip down. I am looking for motor mounts and tranny mounts that are super n ice, if anyone knows of any thatd be great!

what makes the evo 8 drivetrain sound more bs than the vr4? Its eaiser using the evo 8 garble than the vr4s, seriouly look at mounting/fitments/weight differnce it makes more sense to use an updated awd platform thats essentially the same as the gsx platform which practically fits under the car with some minor mods. Call it how you want but the truth is the truth, and you shall get to see it.

I moved this to the correct forum for you, please if its about the GT/GTS specifically post in the correct area.

How did you resolve the issue of bolting up an EVO trans to a V6 engine?

:coffee: I was thinking the same question.
