+1 Agreed. Nothing pisses off an LFA/GTR/whatever owner more than getting pwned by a slow-ass 'clipse convertible.

Charles' Spyder > GTR > LFA.
Fixed that for ya. :yesway:

The LFA is a sleek, beautiful car. The GT-R is a bulky, hunk of a car, but has great power and control. If I had the money, I'd take the LFA any day.
If it was only between those two, money no object, then LFA for me too. GTR looks like a refrigerator on wheels.

Very neat video.

GTR > LFA.

LFA is still a great car though. They flog the car around better on the BBC's "Top Gear"
The very same thing I was going to do. :yesway:

until the after market jumps on the GTR it is more expensive than the initial sticker. dealers are charging like $8k for a brake job. ive seen exausts for them going into the 5 figures territory (low ball cheap cat-backs are still 3k)as well. right now they are only making them in limited numbers witch does not really warrant much after market R&D.

to maintain them at the dealership throughout the life of the factory coverage is almost doubling the price of these things.

now by the time the LFA is actually released i'm sure you will be able to find 09's used at a more reasonable price, toss in 30k worth of mods and woop the LFA all day.

My Meisterschaft rear section exhaust was $2k. HKS exhausts can be had for $2500. Mines and Amuse run in the $5k range, with some exhausts twice that price. They are beautiful works of art imo, but in my position I wouldn't pay that much. If I were rich, absolutely.

The only people paying $8k for a fucking brake job are idiots and uninformed. You can get away with a good set of street/track pads for $500. Big deal. Nissan recommends both rotors and pads be changed at the same time, which is ridiculous.

dude that needle on Kaboobie's video is on crack. I mean come on they couldn't program that damn thing to be smoother? the car is in a steadily accelerating and the damn needle is jumping between 6500 and 7200 RPMS like a crack whore trying to hold her pipe.

i would be more into it if it was called a toyota supra. then slap a v6 twin turbo in it, then, bam, you got a real challenger to godzilla. GTR R-35 all the way.

#57 ·
I honestly believe that we'll be seeing the revival of the Supra in the soon. I mean, they spent how money much on R&D for the LF-A? And for what, 500 examples? I don't exactly understand all of the ins and outs of the automotive world, but I think with all the time and money put into the LF-A and the FT-86, Toyota is in a pretty good position to revive the Supra. Especially with the run away success of the GT-R, Z06/ZR1, and all of these 400+hp ponycars, Toyota should definitely know that the market is ready for the Supra again.

 :wavey: That would be me sir whose 3G PharmEcis is building into a 3.7L turboed AWD monster.

#34 ·
I have spent a lot of money on really dumb stuff, and I typically don't make fun of people for what they spend their money on, because of point #1, but WTF?

Why would you want to dump all that money into an Eclipse? I mean go buy a ZO6 or a used Exige and work that thing.

#35 ·
Is this question for me? Well first off I wanted a turbo in my 3G that would make the car 500hp. The build started off that way and then the longer it went things came up like the topic for AWD on a V6. Since I'm not one to half ass a project and PharmEcis told me it was possible I figured why the hell not and go for it.

I've been a member here for less than 3 full years but I've been in the 3G world since August 2000 when I bought my first 3G which I've sold during my time on here. I love the 3G. I'm on my 3rd 3G now. Before I joined this forum I was already boosted with a SDS and built motor so spending money wasn't anything that bothered me.

Since being on this forum I've bought the 3G that PharmEcis is building, 04MOJOGT's 3G, a 1998 2G GSX and a 2006 EVO IX. I've spent good money on all of them. I have a good job, own my house and all the cars, I'm single with no children and debt free. I'm also 33 years old and have been fortunate to avoid the usual pitfalls of youths financial irresponsibility.

Not to come off as being a prick or something of that sort but I do this because I can. I have a good life, not the best but it's good. I've always had a "need for speed" as they say. I even owned a few motorcycles when I was into those in my younger days. So what I wanted to do when I was younger I'm able to do now and I'm going to do it to the fullest. You only live once.

Oh trust me, I am 1000% with you on all of the above. Hell I used to buy SOMETHING new every year. Car, truck, motorcycle, dirtbike, car, motorcycle... haha. So I am in now way saying you're wrong for doing it because I've done it and I'm not that much older than you. I was more so just wondering why you chose an eclipse. But really that just comes down to personal preference I guess. Like I said in the last post, with all that money you're spending why not do this (modifying) to something that is a bit more capable that's all. But hell, if you like the eclipse then have at it. Like you said, you only live once.

Rick, Chuck is doing it just like any other red blooded American male would do if they were in his shoes.....because he can. :agreed:

Trust me, if I had the knowledge and funds I would do it to my 3g as well; I love the looks of the 3g and the looks I get from other people. Yes, as JR says, "it is a shitbox" but it is a beautiful looking car; i mean there had to be some reason why we all bought one or we wouldn't be here talking.

I didn't ask why he was doing it so much as the car. Like I said, I was just wondering why he didn't choose something that had handling as well as speed/power. But again, like I said, if he (and for that matter, you) like the eclipse then that is all the answer anyone needs. :D

i dont understand why lexus is advertising a $400,000 car to the general public like many of us can afford that. you dont see ferrari advertising, or lamborghini, aston martin, etc.

i dont think their advertising is going bring back much revenue lost in the amazing amount of R&D they put into it.

that aside, amazing car. super cool dash display too.
It doesn't matter because every one of those cars is already spoken for so advertising or not, it's not like they are trying to sell them.

That's because the LF-A was never meant to be mass produced. It's a showcase of technologies, a "halo car", of the brand.

Similar to Bugatti's Veyron. That was the original intent anyway. It was just a lucky break for Bugatti that an unexpected demand for it emerged. When the Veyron was released, it sold for $3.5M but actually cost Bugatti $5M each to build.

Don't worry too much about Toyota. They're making money. 99% of drivers out there don't really give a crap about what they drive, let alone *how* they drive. That's why you see so many Camrys around.

Wow, I had no idea you could even finance a car as expensive as a Veyron. It seems like a rich man's toy that's only bought with throwaway slush funds. I mean, even at rock bottom interest rates, you're still throwing away 10s of thousands, if not 100s of thousands, of dollars in finance charges.
